Toledo Street Emergency Water line repair

Project Owner: City of Chandler
Project Type: Job Order Contracting
Construction Dates: 01/17 to 03/17

The City of Chandler called Achen-Gardner Construction to repair a broken water line on Toledo Street and Meadows Drive. We worked with the City to develop a plan to maintain residential service while installing a new 8" water main in Toledo Street from Arrowhead Drive to Comanche Drive. The original plan was to install a tapping sleeve to tie in the new line but we worked with the city develop a revised approach that involved the installation of a tee with valves (at two locations) in order to accommodate any future maintenance/shutdown requirements. To facilitate installation of one of the tee/valve clusters, one line stop was installed to ensure isolation of the water main and minimize impact to residents. Achen-Gardner crews worked with residents and tied in their services on a schedule that had the least amount of impact. Scope included the installation of 1,200 LF of 8” DIP water lines, new services, tying in existing services, six valves (8”), one fire hydrant with 6” valve, water shutdown coordination and notifications to residents, tying into the existing water main, and restoration of asphalt pavement, roll curb, and private driveway.
